The second level Master's Diploma VASED (Theory and practice of vascular access for hemodialysis) reaches its fifth edition. The training program is coordinated by the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna in Pisa and is the result of a teaching project shared with the Vascular Access Study Group of the Italian Society of Nephrology (GdPAV-SIN) and in collaboration with the GdS of SICVE (Italian Society of Vascular Surgery) and Interventional Radiology of SIRM (Italian Society of Medical Radiology).
The Master's course, aimed at doctors specializing in nephrology, anaesthesia, interventional radiology, angiology, cardiology, vascular surgery and general surgery involved in the management of vascular access for haemodialysis, aims to pass on experience and knowledge of endovascular interventional practices on the ultrasound-guided placement of central venous catheters and on the surgical creation of native and prosthetic vascular accesses.
The deadline for applications is Thursday, May 15. All information on the call for applications and how to apply can be found on the website:

“I am thrilled to announce the new edition of the VASED Master's Degree, the first and only training program of excellence in Italy dedicated to vascular access for hemodialysis, conceived ten years ago by Dr. Mario Meola and today an integral part of the educational offer of the Interdisciplinary Health Science Center of the Sant'Anna School. Vascular access is the pillar of a life-saving therapy. For this reason, the VASED Master's Degree, with the contribution of leading experts in the field, integrates theory, advanced practice and innovative technologies, training medical specialists capable of making a difference. With the VASED Master, the Sant'Anna School continues to invest in training that defends and saves lives,” says Vincenzo Lionetti, director of the Master and professor of Anesthesiology at the Health Science Interdisciplinary Research Center of the Sant'Anna School of Pisa.

The need for a multidisciplinary approach to vascular access

Nephrologists, anesthetists, interventional radiologists, angiologists, cardiologists and surgeons: different professionals who can combine their experience and skills to offer less invasive and optimized solutions according to the needs of each patient.
The educational objectives of the VASED Master's program are: to provide multidisciplinary training in a field of great interest for the care of patients on chronic hemodialysis; to provide nephrologists with the knowledge and experience that will enable them to act as a reference figure in the management of the vascular access team; acquire the necessary skills for the direct management of native distal and proximal vascular access and of transitory and permanent central venous catheterization; standardize diagnostic and management behavior with the aim of improving the patient's primary and secondary survival and quality of life.
